Sinopse
Culminando uma longa evolução, Macau superou Las Vegas e é hoje o maior mercado de jogos de fortuna ou azar do mundo. Esta obra, escrita por um especialista em direito do jogo, oferece uma panorâmica da exploração dos jogos de casino em Macau de 1849 à actualidade, documentando as muitas concessões autorizadas: da sua atribuição, regulamentação e tributação à forma como decorreu na prática a exploração, no contexto económico e político de cada época. Divide-se em três períodos: a era do Fantan (1849-1961); a concessão da STDM (1962-2002), em que o Bacará assumiu a primazia; e o actual período dos «resorts integrados» (desde 2002), caracterizado por reformas como a introdução de concorrência e de leis sobre os promotores e o crédito para jogo, no contexto de um grande crescimento do turismo.

This book, written by a specialist in gaming law, provides a detailed account of the operation of casino games of chance in Macau from 1849 to the present day, documenting the many concessions that were authorized. It discusses such issues as the tender processes, the regulation and taxation, and, as well, the manner in which the various concessions functioned, taking into account the economic and political context of each period.
The book is divided in three parts: the Fantan era (1849-1961); the STDM concession (1962-2002), during which Baccarat became the most important game; and the current period of integrated resorts (since 2002), characterized by reforms such as the introduction of competition, the regulation of gaming promoters and credit for gaming, and an emphasis on diversification, in the context of a major growth in tourism”.
